Development Overview

BrightSource Energy is building the world’s most cost-effective and reliable solar energy plants. The company is actively developing more than 4 gigawatts (GW) of solar power projects in southwestern states – enough to power 1.4 million homes. BrightSource now has more than 2.6 gigawatts of power under contract, including the two largest solar power agreements ever – 1,300 megawatts with Southern California Edison and 1,310 megawatts with Pacific Gas & Electric Company. The company’s Solar Energy Development Center in Israel’s Negev Desert is now fully operational and demonstrating the effectiveness of BrightSource’s Luz Power Tower (LPT) 550 technology.

Development Fast Facts

If BrightSource Energy plants were built on less than 2% of the land in the Mojave Desert, they would provide enough power for all of the homes in California and reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by over 30 million tons per year.
BrightSource Energy uses air, rather than water, to cool its power plants, reducing water usage by more than 90 percent.
BrightSource Energy’s world-class project development team has collectively developed, constructed, and managed more than 20GW of power projects.
